Eddie Murphy plays a detective with a speciality of finding lost children. He is told he is the 'Chosen one' who will find and protect the Golden Child, a Bhuddist mystic who was kidnapped by an evil sorcerer. Murphy disbelieves the mysticism but finds more and more evidence of demon worship as he investigates.
A private detective specializing in missing children is charged with the task of finding a special child who dark forces want to eliminate.
The Golden Child revives a dead bird in Nepal and is kidnapped by the evil Sardo Numspa (Charles Dance). Five days later in L.A., missing kids specialist investigator Chandler Jarrell (Eddie Murphy) is searching for Cheryll Mosley. Kee Nang (Charlotte Lewis) tells him about a 400 year old prediction. The Golden Child&#39;s destiny is to save the world and taken to a city of angels. He is to be saved by a man who&#39;s no angel and that&#39;s Jarrell. Cheryll&#39;s murder is linked to the missing Golden Child. In his dream, Sardo Numspa offers Jarrell the child in exchange for the Ajanti Dagger.<br/><br/>Eddie Murphy is doing another wise-cracking detective and he&#39;s good at that. He has plenty of fun being sarcastic. The movie itself is inferior. Charlotte Lewis is absolutely beautiful but not the most charismatic. Only Victor Wong is able to take full advantage of Murphy. Their back and forth is fun. A lot of this movie is eye-rolling. The first is probably the annoying TV host. He&#39;s set up to be funny but he&#39;s annoyingly wrong. Many parts of this movie is like that and comedic moments don&#39;t turn out to be funny.
I would lie if I said that this movie is good, it isn&#39;t. The plot is down the drain and so unlogical that it makes my head ache, but the movie does have some qualities. The actors are OK and the footage can&#39;t be complained at either and I must add that thanks to Eddie Murphy the movie is watchable and even funny.<br/><br/>I don&#39;t know how he does it but his zany jokes keeps hitting the right comedy-button - every time.<br/><br/>So the conclusion is that, in the end I must recommend you all to see it - if not for a brilliant movie but for Murphy&#39;s jokes.
Eddie Murphy's latest is a flabby disappointment. The jokes die, the action curdles. Much of it falls as flat as smashed tinsel.
